year of the new.on december 25th, 2001, my wife emailed me a photo that told me i was going to be a father. on january 2nd, 2002, i stopped being a computational biologist -- a job that i had been training to do for over a decade -- and became a professional linux systems administrator, helping to maintain and extend the machines that power one of the foremost biological databases in the world. on jun 8th, i started writing this diary, so that when i'm old and gray, i can look back on my year of new fatherhood and new profession. i plan to write something here every day, to recount what happened, when, and what i thought about it. nothing too profound, and probably nothing too interesting to people who don't already know me, but you can never tell -- i might just drop some wisdom without meaning to. inspiration. respect. mad props. |
